This is our weekly round up which will look at what happened in Lobo Sports in the last week and look ahead to the games and events that the week ahead will have for Lobo Sports. This will not be game previews or game recaps instead it will look at awards awarded to Lobo players, the outcome of games, as well as giving you a one post location for the week ahead.
Women’s Soccer (9-7-1; 7-2-1): The Lobos went 2-0-0 this past weekend on their road trip to Colorado Springs, with a 1-0 win Friday against Colorado College and a 3-0 win Sunday against Air Force. The 2nd place Lobos host 1st place SDSU on Friday for both teams’ regular season finale. SDSU has the #1 seed locked up for the conference tournament next weekend in San Diego, but the Lobos will either have the #2 or #3 seed, depending on the outcome of this match and the SJSU match against Fresno State. It will be interesting to see if SDSU plays their normal lineup in this match, since they have already have the top seed in the Mountain West Tournament locked up.
Men’s Soccer (7-5-3; 1-4-1): The Lobos went 0-1-1 this past week with a disappointing 1-1 draw against Marshall, where they dominated the play but couldn’t find the game-winning goal. The Lobos then had their most disappointing match on Tuesday, where they were dominated by a very solid Charlotte team and lost the match 2-0. The Lobos have put themselves in a tough spot and need to win their last two matches of the regular season to have a decent shot of making the NCAA Tournament. The Lobos head to Miami on Saturday to take on Florida International in a must win match, as the Lobos are 7th in Conference USA standings and FIU is 8th and only the top 7 teams earn a trip to the Conference USA tournament.
Volleyball (13-9; 6-4): The Lobos had a solid week by going 2-1 with a 3-1 road win against Nevada, a straight set home win against Air Force, and a 3-2 loss to SDSU, where the Lobos lost the match after having a 2-0 lead. The Lobos continue their home stand when they take on SJSU Thursday night at Johnson Gym at 7PM. The Lobos won their match in straight sets against SJSU in San Jose, so look for the Lobos to try to make it back-to-back 3-0 match wins against SJSU.
Men’s Golf: The Lobos last invitational of the fall season was cancelled, so the Lobos will look to get ready for the spring season, which begins in January.
Women’s Golf: The Lobos finished 9th out of 19 teams in the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown, with a final score of -18. The Lobos played very well, each day scoring at least a -5. Ingrid Gutierrez led the Lobos with a t-18th finish, finishing with a final score of -7. This was the Lobos last Invitational of the fall season and will get ready for the spring season, which begins in January.
Men’s Tennis: The Lobos had a very solid week at the USTA/ITA Regionals last weekend, which saw double team Bart Van Leijsen and Hayden Sabatka make the Championship match before falling to a team from Denver University in a third set tie break. The Lobos will have time to get ready for the USTA/ITA National Indoors, which take place mid-November in New York. This will be the last event for the fall season and they will prepare for the spring season, which will kick off in January.
Women’s Tennis: The Lobos had a week off to prepare for the Lobo Invite on October 30th. This is a lead up to the USTA/ITA National Indoors that will take place in mid-November in New York. This is the last team event before the spring season kicks off in January. Look for the Lobos to try to build momentum going into the spring season.
Football (4-4, 2-2): The Lobos fell to .500 with a 31-21 road loss against SJSU. The Lobos offense struggled to have sustained success, leading to only 21 points in the game. The Lobos get a much-needed bye week this weekend, as they try to figure things out before they play their last four games of the season, needing two more wins to be eligible for a bowl game. It will be a tough task, as they have home games against Utah State, Air Force and Colorado State, as well as a road game against Boise State.
Men’s Cross Country: The Lobos will head to Reno for the Mountain West Conference Championship meet on Friday. The Lobos are one of the teams that will have a chance to win the meet. Expect a strong showing from the Lobos as they look to continue their Cross Country Season.
Women’s Cross Country: The #1 ranked Lobos look to continue their dominance on everyone they encounter when they head to Reno for the Mountain West Conference Championship meet. The Lobos are as big as favorites as you can have in a cross country meet and, assuming that their top runners all compete, don’t be surprised if all five Lobos that score finish in the top 6. You can follow the Lobos domination on Campus Insiders on Friday October 30th, and enjoy the sweet taste of a Lobos victory.
It should be a great week of Lobo Sports so show your support and go cheer on your Lobo Teams!
