Women’s Soccer at Weber State Preview

The Lobos (1-2-0) continue their seemingly endless seven-game road trip with a trip to Ogden, Utah to take on Weber State (1-1-0) on Friday afternoon. The Lobos are coming off a 5-2 win against Pacific on Sunday, and will look to build on the success of that game. If the Lobos are able to win both matches this weekend – the other being on Sunday at Idaho State – they will set themselves up for a very successful season. It will be important for the Lobos to put pressure on Weber State early in the match and find an early goal to take pressure off the Lobo attack. This should be a game that the Lobos can control the pace of the game and play in the attacking half for most of the match.

Weber State:

Coming off a good year where they went 10-9-1, the Wildcats are looking to show even more improvement this year. They are led by 12th year Head Coach Tim Crompton, who graduated from Weber State 20 years ago.

  • Last season they were outscored by opponents 32-29. They did outscore their opponents 15-13 in first halves, but were outscored 19-14 in second halves.
  • Averaged 13.4 shots per match while allowing 14.6 shot per game.
  • Goalie Sydnie Brough had her first shutout of the season in their last game against Grand Canyon.
  • The goal-scorers so far this season are Kelsi Tatton and Megan Price, both of whom scored in their last game against GCU.

Lobo Stats:

New Mexico Opponents
Goals 6 (1 1st Half, 5 2nd Half) 6 (1 1st Half, 5 2nd Half)
Goals Per Game 2 2
Shots On Goal-Attempts 27-36 22-42
Shots Per Game 12 14
Assists 1 1
Corner Kicks 6 13
  • Five different Lobos have scored one goal so far this season, with the sixth goal being an own goal.
  • Lobos have done a fantastic job of putting shots on goal, so you have to think that goals will start showing up in the first half soon.

Match Prediction:

It is still hard to get a good read on how this match will play out. The Lobos have done well so far this season playing Texas Tech and California close before beating Pacific, while Weber State lost 4-0 against Utah but bounced back with a 2-0 against Grand Canyon. That said, I like the Lobos in this match and give them a 47% chance for a win and 77% chance for a tie. I think the Lobos will win this match 2-0 behind a goal in each half to improve to 2-2-0 on the season.
