With a sweep of NMSU now under their belt and having gained a little momentum, the Lobos now turn their attention to their final tune-up before their holiday tournament in Hawaii. That tune-up comes in the form of the Rice Owls, which would make this an interesting matchup if this were baseball, but alas, they’re playing basketball tonight.

New Mexico Bowl Preview: Arizona
Here it is, everyone, the long-awaited return to postseason play for the New Mexico Football Team. As was expected, the Lobos were given the opportunity to stay home to play in the New Mexico Bowl, where they’ll fact a familiar face from the past: the Arizona Wildcats. Both teams feel as though they have something to prove in this game, so I’m expecting a hard fought game tomorrow.
Men’s Basketball vs. NMSU Recap (Game 2)
The sun still rises in the east, water is still wet, and the Lobos are still better than the Aggies at basketball. For the 15th time in the 18 games since the Alford/Neal era began, the Lobos beat the Aggies, this time with a convincing 79-61 victory. With this win, the Lobos moved to 7-2 on the season, remained undefeated in the Pit, and continued looking like a team on the rise.
Men’s Basketball vs. NMSU: Round 2 Preview
Following a really nice win against a very good Northern Iowa team, the Lobos turn back around to face the NMSU Aggies in the return game of the Rio Grande Rivalry series. The Lobos won the game down south last month 83-74, so the Aggies will be coming up here hoping to avoid a sweep. The Lobos, on the other hand, have already grabbed their brooms.
Men’s Basketball vs. Northern Iowa Recap
On Saturday night, the Lobos hosted a very good Northern Iowa Panthers team in what felt like the sort of game that could decide which team ends up on which side of the bubble come tournament time. Well, if that ends up being the case, the Lobos made a statement as to which side they think they should be on by winning 76-57.
Men’s Basketball vs. Northern Iowa Preview
It’s been a whole week since the Lobos last hit the court, in their hard-fought loss at Purdue, so I think that the team, the coaches, and certainly the fans are ready to see them back in action. They’ll face another tough challenge on Saturday when Northern Iowa visits the Pit.
2015 Mountain West Football Recap
Now that the regular season is over, the conference champions have been decided, and all of the bowl games scheduled, I thought it would be a good time to take a look back at the conference season. With the Mountain Division ultimately coming down to either Air Force or New Mexico, clearly this season didn’t go exactly as predicted, which, at least to me, made things more fun.
Men’s Basketball at Purdue Recap
The Lobos went up to West Lafayette yesterday to play a toue team and played them even for 30 minutes before Purdue was finally able to pull away. It never feels good to lose, but their strong performugh Purdance against such a good team was a good sign for how this Lobo team is going to perform for the rest of the season.
Men’s Basketball at Purdue Preview
After a good win against a solid Oral Roberts team on Tuesday, the Lobos head out to West Lafayette, IN to take on the Purdue Boilermakers. Purdue sometimes gets lost in the shuffle, having to compete both on the court and for attention against the rest of the Big Ten elite, but make no mistake, this is one of the best teams in the country. A Lobo win tomorrow would likely catapult the team into the top 25 and put them on a good track towards an at-large bid in the NCAA Tournament.
A Definitive Ranking of the Lobos’ Helmet Combinations
Now that the Lobos have clenched a bowl game and we’re all just waiting to find out if they’ll get to play in the New Mexico Bowl or if they’ll travel elsewhere, I figured that now would be the perfect time to take a look back at the entire season. And by that, I mean look back at all of the different helmet combinations the team wore. In the 12 games that they’ve played so far, they’ve worn seven different combinations, which is near Oregon-esque. I’m a sucker for these kind of things, so I went through all of the combinations to definitely determine the rankings of what we saw the team wear out on the field, starting from the bottom and working our way to what might be the best helmets the team has ever worn.
