Men’s Basketball vs. CSU Pueblo Game Thoughts

Lobo Men’s Basketball kicked off their season with an exhibition against CSU-Pueblo in a game the Lobos ended up winning 96-84. Exhibitions are always hard to really take anything out of for a few reasons such as different rotations, no scouting, and different styles of play. I won’t focus too much on the actual game, but instead focus on some observations that I picked up on during the game.

Men’s Basketball vs. CSU-Pueblo Preview

There’s an old Rogers Hornsby quote that says, “People ask me what I do in the winter when there’s no baseball. I’ll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring.” In general, Lobo fans are exactly the same way about basketball. Men’s Basketball Preview: Mountain West Conference Preview

So far in our preview of the UNM Men’s Basketball season, we’ve focused entirely on the Lobos, including a look at the guards and wings, a look at the bigs and walk-ons, and some general thoughts about the season. Men’s Basketball Preview: Bigs and Walk-ons

We are now just one week away from the Lobos’ first exhibition game, and we couldn’t be more excited. Yesterday, we looked at the guards and wings on the team, so today we’ll get to know the bigs and the walk-ons. As before, we’ll have an overview of each player, along with some things that we expect to see, some things we hope to see, and their stats from the last season they played in D-1. One thing seems clear to me: this is a much-improved unit that should provide a lot more production than what the team got from the inside last season.

Men’s Basketball Preview: Guards and Wings

With basketball season just around the corner and football on a bye week, we feel like now is a perfect time to start our preview of the 2015-16 New Mexico Lobos Men’s Basketball team. Today, we’ll get to know the guards and wings on the team, with the posts and walk-ons coming tomorrow. In this preview, we’ll have an overview of each player, along with some things that we expect to see, some things we hope to see, and their stats from the last season they played in D-1. Putting this together, it’s clear that this is a team with a lot of talent and a lot of potential, so it’s a good thing that the season starts next week because I’m not sure I could wait much longer.

State of the Programs: Part 2

At long last, here is the second part of our look at the state of the various UNM Athletics programs. Previously, we looked at the programs that have been struggling recently and whose immediate goals are to be in the conversation for a conference title. This time, we’ll look at the programs that are already there and whose goals are to be relevant on a national scale. In the final installment, which we swear will happen at some point, we’ll take a look at the programs who are already competing for national titles.

Some Thoughts on Basketball Recruiting

The Recruiting Period has started for NCAA Men’s Basketball, which means coaches are able to have in-home visits and school visits for potential recruits. Recruiting can be a complicated time for coaches, players, and those that follow recruiting. While we here at Lobo Lane won’t focus on recruiting until a player is actually signed, we do still have some general thoughts about the process. So here are few things we (sometimes unsuccessfully) keep in mind while following basketball recruiting.
